In the app

Microphone access is only for checking a recitation. If the prompt was dismissed, turn the microphone back on in the device settings for Subac.

About and credits

Subac is the traditional Somali method of Qur'an memorisation, built as a practice app by Subac / Mohamed Jeyte. The screens, Qaaidah drills, and logo are Subac's. The Qur'an text, font, and recitations below are not.

Speech scoring

Speech scoring is a practice aid. It can miss mistakes, and it is less accurate with children's voices. It is not a religious ruling.

Qur'an text

The Arabic text is Uthmani Hafs. The copy in this app matches the AlQuran Cloud edition quran-uthmani ayah for ayah. AlQuran Cloud attributes the Arabic text it serves to sources including the Tanzil Project. Tanzil distributes that text under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0. Permission is granted to copy and distribute verbatim copies, but changing the text is not allowed. The source must be clearly indicated, with a link to tanzil.net so readers can follow updates.

Uthmanic Hafs font

The mushaf is drawn with the Uthmanic Hafs font, which is the property of the King Fahd Glorious Qur'an Printing Complex (مجمع الملك فهد لطباعة المصحف الشريف), Madinah. Subac ships the font file unchanged and does not claim it. The Complex allows the font to be copied and used, including on a website, provided it is not attributed to anyone other than the Complex, and provided it is not modified or sold as a font.

Page layout

The 15-line Madinah page arrangement is the layout already used by the app. A replacement dataset with a license that clearly allows commercial redistribution was not found, so those page files were left unchanged. The surah-name frame and the round ayah markers are original drawings made for Subac, not artwork from another app. Details are in the license notes shipped with the source.

Recitation audio

Listen and practice play Arabic recitation streamed from everyayah.com and cdn.islamic.network. The reciter's name is shown on those screens. A written license that clearly allows a commercial app to redistribute those recordings was not found, so the files are not copied into the app.

Shu'bah recitation

Sh. Ali al-Huthaify, Shu'bah 'an 'Asim, is the recording of the King Fahd Glorious Qur'an Printing Complex (مجمع الملك فهد لطباعة المصحف الشريف). The Complex allows that recording to be used free of charge in computer apps and on websites. Subac hosts the ayah files and does not claim the recording. The Complex is not responsible for a technical error in this copy.

Sh. Abdul Rashid Ali Sufi (Sh. Suufi), Shu'bah 'an 'Asim, is his own recording. The ayah files were published by Noon lil-Quran (nquran.com) and are the archive.org item AbdulrashidSoufiShu3ba. Playback is covered by permission from his team. The page on screen stays Uthmani Hafs. A Shu'bah mushaf text is not in this copy.
